About Us

Chestnut Hills Philosophy

Central to the Chestnut Hills Yoga philosophy is respect and honor of the individual, expressed in a safe, supportive, and intimate environment for the study & pursuit of yoga. The Chestnut Hills Yoga Studio is a place of learning and growth, whether in private or class sessions. Sessions are authentic to the Satyananda tradition. The Chestnut Hills Yoga Studio is an embracing space, mindful that the environment and energy around us contribute to the fullness of the yoga experience. Sustainability is the thread that weaves its way through all aspects of the Chestnut Hills Yoga experience, from the class curriculum to the resource library to the cleaning products used in the studio.

The Possibilities of Yoga

Consider initiating your yoga practice to achieve a more satisfying balance in your life. Yoga offers connections, awareness, and choices that help you find physical fitness, emotional well being, mental strength, and spiritual awakening. Yoga illuminates your life experience and allows you to take the lessons learned on the mat and extend them into all parts of your life. The personal development and a sense of well being that result from your yoga practice will have a positive impact on the patterns and challenges in your life. Additional benefits include:

  • Stress reduction & relaxation
  • Increased flexibility & strength
  • Pain management
  • Increased energy
  • Increased productivity, concentration and focus

Satyananda Tradition of Yoga

Central to the Satyananda tradition is cultivation of self-awareness, individual capacity, and growth. The Satyananda style of yoga draws on the vastness of the yoga philosophy, experience, and deep connections to master practitioners and their teachings and is adapted to contemporary life.  In practice, the Satyananda style of yoga is accessible to all by respecting the wholeness of each individual, offering an incremental, balanced and safe practice.  Each yoga session includes elements of physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation.

Your Instructor: Diane Swander

Diane believes that as we experience our own personal sense of growth we are better able to be an instrument of service in support of the growth of others.  Following a career in economic and community development, Diane is inspired to work with individuals who seek personal development and greater meaning in their lives. Diane is a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance (RYTTM-500) and Level 1 accredited in the Satyananda tradition, having completed over 1,000 hours of training with the Yoga Academy of North America. She deepened her studies in India and plans regular retreats to Satyananda Ashrams to continue her personal growth.  Diane has chosen to locate the Chestnut Hills Yoga studio in her home as an expression of her commitment to life balance, a shared experience within her neighborhood, and a sustainable business and lifestyle. Diane, her husband Peter, and their cat Carter live in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood.
